Giddy with the prospect of mucho awesomeness and procrastination,
I built the Wheel Questions, Wheel Answers garden, complete with an eerie statue from
Barong Imports.
I bought a marble monolith and was offered a pile of marble scraps, that I painstakingly laid out in a spiral. (Note to self: rectangular scraps = rectangular spiral next time.)
Katherine even got me to buy rocks. Who would have thought you have to buy rocks?
The garden needed to display lot of question cards, so a rotating drum seemed stylish, a kind of secular Tibetan prayer wheel, with cards flapping in the breeze. A contractor to built the Wheel itself and the roof.
Setting up the path, the rocks, and the spiral,
I could tell that I was onto something from the comments of
passersby on the street. We opened on July 12, 2008.
Here’s how it works. You’re walking down the street and you see the Wheel. What is that? you wonder.
You enter and have a moment of peace with the Wheel and the non-secular shrine that houses it.
You read all the cards by people who have questions and may feel less alone.
You read some answers and may feel inspired.
If you write your own question, it’s symbolic that you
are ready to make changes in your life. Your answer will be posted
on the website in a few days. Go to the website for your answer. Don’t go to the Wheel itself — it’s not large enough to hold all the cards.
