Take it in steps. It certainly can be weird to outpace or over give to him. Try saying things like, I had a great time! or You’re the best! and be giving in small ways, like calling just to say hi. Now, does he reciprocate to the same level? Then try a little more until you can get to I love you. Does he not give back? Back off or leave him. <3
