It’s not a mystery. You make them comfortable being open by showing confidence(faking it is fine ! Nobody can tell !) and being level-headed rather than flipping out or freaking out. Then you can talk about anything, including what you want & how you like to be loved. It will open the door to him describing his needs, too.
