I think a lot of the classics are overrated & a passion for reading is more important to stimulate than learning about the 1920s, which is the secret reason the Great Gatsby is popular. I say, give kids a choice of 100 books to read for class. It gives the illusion of freedom for the kids & lets them pick books each to their own personality.
